BCM News
During the summer months, collegiate ministry obviously slows down a bit. I have been busy, however, putting together several collegiate ministry “handbooks.” These handbooks consist of several different sections packed with articles, information, and pieces that I have written, that in my opinion, are vital to carrying out ministry objectives to collegians. These sections are as follows: 1) Baptist Collegiate Ministry’s purpose, the BCM Director’s role, and campus strategy; 2) BCM’s intentionals, goals, and action plans; 3) a calendar with BCM activities/events laid out; 4) helpful collegiate ministry articles; 5) BCM discipleship studies and materials; 6) a copy of the 2000 Baptist Faith & Message; 7) a spiritual gifts survey; 8) essential documents for BCM to be recognized as a club on campus; and 9) a complete Sierra Baptist Association church directory with names and contact numbers.
In addition, BCM at the University of Nevada at Reno is continuing our music ministry called Elevate. Elevate is an awesome time of contemporary worship music and we always pray and read a few Psalms in our worship time. We usually meet right out in the middle of the student union lawn where we are visible and can be heard by anyone walking by. This has proven to be a neat and easy way to do evangelism. Over the last two summers, we have had anywhere from 10-15 students just show up to sing with us. At Elevate, the music is anything but traditional. In fact, we play and sing some of the newest and coolest contemporary worship songs available. Artists such as David Crowder, Rush of Fools, Casting Crowns, Third Day, Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman, Ross King, Dave Hunt, Tim Hughes, and the incredibly talented acts of Mercy Me and Charlie Hall (my wife and I had the privilege of seeing these bands live many times in college as both artists are from Oklahoma City) are just a sample of the great Christian music that we play and sing during Elevate.
Well, that is the long and short of it for now. Is there any way that the BCM students and I could serve you and your church? Just let your loving Redneck know! I want you to know that I am praying for you, your families, and your respective church bodies. May God bless you this summer.
For The Fame of Christ,
