Melanie Lawler grew up in
Mississippi. After serving in
Las Vegas as a US2 multihousing missionary from 1996-1998, Melanie said she would never again serve in
Nevada. It was too hot, too dry, too brown, and too ugly. However, God had other plans, and His are always best. Melanie attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and graduated in 2000 with a Master of Arts in Christian Education with emphasis in social work. Then she returned to
Nevada in 2001 and serves as the Sierra Baptist Association’s ministry evangelism director. She has learned that not all of
Nevada is hot, brown, dry, an ugly and cannot imagine living anywhere else!
As ministry evangelism director, Melanie helps churches develop and start ministries that reach beyond the walls of the church into communities to meet needs while sharing Christ. The ministries churches do vary as much as the kinds of churches who do them. Ministries may include English as a Second Language classes, food ministries, after school Kids Clubs or tutoring programs, backyard Bible Clubs, Parent’s Night Out, etc. Ministry evangelism also includes ministries to the many special events in our area such as rodeos, Hot August Nights, Street Vibrations, parades, and others.
Melanie’s prayer is that one day our churches here in northwestern Nevada and eastern California will not be known only as a place where a group of people meet once a week at a certain time but a place where people in the community can go to have their needs met and encounter the life changing power of Christ.
